There are different types of adhesives and glue that are used for different purposes; here is a quick run-down of some of the most common products and their uses.

Glue is probably the first adhesive that comes to mind and can be used for almost any material, from paper to metal to wood and more. Wood adhesive, which is water-based, is best suited for tasks such as gluing wood to wood or laminate. Animal-based adhesives are much more durable, making them more suitable for abrasives or gum tapes. Starch or resin-based and paper adhesives are other common types of glue.

Another common type of adhesive is tape; like glue, the type you need depends on the purpose of the tape. Tape is available for almost every industry, each made from different materials specific to the function of the tape. Double-sided acrylic tapes are often used in the auto industry, whereas durable fabric tapes are used in the shoe manufacturing industry. There are even tapes made of metal (i.e. copper) to be used in construction work.

Adhesive gelatines are most commonly used in the medical and technology industries. Gelatine is flexible, durable, and for the most part, non-allergenic; making them best suited for these purposes.
