The Indian market for automotive ball bearings and other related items is currently facing a “double edged sword,” of sorts. Because the internal market is not growing rapidly enough to support the needs of the industry, the industry, in turn, cannot afford to update standards and equipment to meet the growing needs of the worldwide market. Methods are slower than the global market, and demand is low within the Indian borders because of the lack of being able to provide top quality bearings at low prices and quickly.

Currently, despite the relatively low demand in comparison to the rest of the world, most of the ball bearing market is being imported into India to meet what needs are present. This is due, mainly, to the fact that imported ball bearings and related components are around 50% less expensive than those manufactured within India. Additionally, due to higher standards of manufacturing vehicles to begin with, the need for replacement of these types of parts is declining rapidly.

The Indian Ball Bearings industry is also taking a “hit” from global manufacturers that are producing identical products and placing contracted to produce them for both market and “off market” companies. The fact that major manufacturers are producing product for two companies at the same time, from around the world, cuts into India’s ability to secure a place in the smaller markets.
