It is a fact that everyone needs clean air to breathe; it is also a fact that many industrial processes make breathing clean air virtually impossible. Fortunately there are many different types of air filters and accessories that have been designed to help clean the air and reduce contaminants released by the particular process. All filters operate in essentially the same way, no matter the types; they move air through a series of screens or other filtering materials in order to remove impurities.

Industrial dust collectors (filters) are one of the most common applications of this type of equipment. Many manufacturing processes release fine dust particles, some even considered toxic; dust collectors remove this dust and purify the air. Sizes of these machines vary depending on the industry. There are government regulations pertaining to the amount of impurities that are allowed to be released into the air (emissions); emissions restrictions are different for each industry so it is necessary to be sure that all filtering products meet or exceed those regulations.

No matter the type of air filter, the basic design remains the same; a metal housing that holds filtering materials. Common filtering materials are activated carbon, fibreglass tightly woven cotton or corrugated paper. One of the main filter accessories used is an intake fan, whose purpose is to pull the dirty air through the filtering material.
