“Hose” is a general term for any flexible tube used to move a substance from one place to another. They can be made from a number of materials, including rubber or metal; the type of hose needed depends on the purpose of the hose. Hoses and hose assembly are an integral part of industry, and item that many have heard of but that few really know about.

Water hoses are just one of the many types of industrial hoses. They are generally made from rubber of varying strengths; heavy duty rubber hoses are good for moving extremely hot or cold water because the rubber is resistant to extreme temperatures.

Another common industrial hose is a steam hose; because steam is such a high temperature, rubber hoses are not recommended for this application. Instead, these hoses are constructed of flexible metal strands woven or braided together.

Air hoses are usually small and are most often made of PVC. This equipment has to be able to withstand many PSIS’, as air travelling through these hoses is generally in a very high pressure stream.

Hose assembly is surprisingly regulated, though if you think about the substances that travel through hoses, you would see the need for safety regulations. Because these products handle all kinds of toxic or dangerous materials, it is essential that the safety of the operator is taken into consideration. The Association for Hose and Accessories Distribution sets out guidelines on the manufacture and materials that should be used for hoses and hose assembly.
