Agriculture is the lifeblood of many countries, India especially, because of the large amount of available farmland; only about 25% of our population lives in cities. Fibres, fuel and food are the three categories of agriculture; India is a major exporter of milk, iron ore and textiles. This article will look at some of the other miscellaneous agro products that India produces as well.

Besides milk, India is also the world’s largest producers of teas; tea is produced in almost every state in India. There are three common types of tea produced in India, though there are several other, more specialised types. Those three types of tea are Assam, Darjeeling and Nilgiri; each one has a specific flavour and some (Darjeeling, namely) have different flavours depending on the time of year that the tea leaves are harvested. After harvesting, different spices are added to produce even more flavours.

Silk is one of the major textile exports in India; there are several types of silk, dependent on what the silkworms are fed. Silk and silk productions are probably the largest agricultural employer in India, with over 700,000 family farms employed in this practice in different regions in the country.

India is the second largest producer of coal in the world; coal is an energy producing mineral that is used in fuel production as well as other industries as well. Even today, coal still generates 41 % of the world’s electricity.

Besides these three products, India produces many other miscellaneous agro products; you would be surprised at the amount of Indian products that are exported throughout the world.
