India is one of the largest producers and exporters of Granite, the world over. With a market that has grown and modernized successfully since the early 1970s, the Indian Granite Industry is a world renowned supplier and manufacturer of granite countertops and, most impressively, statues, monuments, and memorials. Located in southern India, the entire granite monument industry has supplied the granite for such monuments as The Holocaust Museum and Vietnam War memorial in Washington, DC, The Hiroshima Atom Bomb Memorial in Japan, among many others. In recent years, the Indian granite market underwent incredible competition from the Chinese market and is working diligently to remain a top producer and supplier of Granite.

India is also regarded as the 4th largest Marble supplier in the world. Although a major supplier, India is also recognized as a country that has used marble in architectural works of art for centuries. Modeled after the Italian practices, marble inlays can be found in buildings and other pieces of artwork dating back to the Mughal Emperors. Unfortunately, the use of marble in architecture and artwork suffered an incredible decline over many years, and did not make a comeback until the 1950s. Today, India is, again, recognized as one of the top marble inlay producers in the world.

Slate is another stone India is well known for high levels of production. Although ranked behind the US and China, India is a high producer of slate, much like granite and marble.
