The concept of pets in India has undergone some important changes over the last several years; these changes are mostly due to the increased industrialisation of our society. In many metropolitan areas, dogs are now considered to be part of the family, to be pampered and taken care of. Due to this change in attitude, the market for pet-use products, feeds, pet furniture and allied products continues to grow.

Specific pet-use products are now being marketed in India, including pet food bowls, leashes, brushes, and the like; these products are being sold on a larger scale than ever before. Even dog clothes, which have been popular in other industrialised nations for a while, are also becoming a more and more popular item in India.

Pet feeds, too, have been experiencing huge increases in growth. In days gone by, pet feed was simply any scraps that humans didn’t eat, or hay/grass. Today’s pet foods come in countless varieties, some produced here in India, and some imported from other countries.

One more sector of the pet industry that is experiencing tremendous growth is the pet furniture industry. No longer are dogs tied to posts in the yard or kept inside all day; dog beds and houses, cat climbing trees, and other furniture items are all being manufactured and purchased at an almost astonishing rate.

Pet-use products, feeds, pet furniture and allied products are an ever growing industry in India...it will be exciting to see what the next twenty years or so will bring.
